Set up the Steam console

Overview

To publish your app on Steam, you must check several values on the Steamworks partner site and register them in the Hive Console. This document describes where and how to check each value and the Hive Console screens where you register the values. The related console guides explain how to enter and save the values on the console screens.

Register the store App ID

The Steam App ID is the value Steam uses to identify your app. Hive Axyl integrates with Steam based on this value to handle login, payment, and more, so register it before you set up login integration and payment integration.

Check the Steam App ID of the target app on the Steamworks partner site.

Register the Steam App ID in Store App ID of the App ID that you created with the Steam store in Project Settings > App ID of the Hive Console. For how to register it, see Register the store App ID.

Steam login works as follows: the Hive Axyl server checks the user authentication result with Steamworks. For Steam login to work in your app, you must check the Publisher Web API Key used for this check in Steamworks and register it in the Hive Console.

Steam login also uses the Steam App ID that you registered as the store App ID. If the Steam App ID is empty, login does not work even if you save the credentials.

1. Check the Publisher Web API Key

The Publisher Web API Key is issued per Steamworks group. To create a key, your Steamworks account must have administrator permissions. If you do not have administrator permissions, check the list of administrators on the Steamworks partner site. Ask an administrator to create a key or to elevate your permissions.

Go to the Steamworks partner site.
Go to Users & Permissions > Manage Groups.
Select the group to use. If there is no group, select Create new group to create one. We recommend creating a separate group dedicated to the Publisher Web API Key.
Check that the applications linked to the group are correct.
Go to Web API.
If there is no existing key, select Create WebAPI Key.
Select the key permissions to use.
Select Save Changes.
Copy the Publisher Web API Key value you created.

Steam login and Steam payment use the Publisher Web API Key that you check in the same location.

Payment integration

Steam payment works as follows: after the user completes a payment, the Hive Axyl server verifies the receipt with the Publisher Web API Key. For Steam payment to work, you must check the credentials used for verification and the information of the products to sell in Steamworks and register them in the Hive Console.

Steam payment supports only single-item purchases of consumable products. It does not support subscription products or multi-item purchases, which pay for several items at once.

1. Prepare the Publisher Web API Key

Steam payment uses the same Publisher Web API Key as Steam login. If you have not issued a key yet, first complete Check the Publisher Web API Key under login integration. Follow this procedure as is even if you do not use Steam login.

2. Register products to sell and check product IDs

Hive Axyl retrieves Steam product information by using the product IDs registered in the Hive Console. Therefore, the product IDs registered in Steamworks and the product IDs to register in the Hive Console must be the same.

Register the products to sell on the Steamworks partner site, and check their product IDs.

3. Register in the Hive Console

Register the values you checked in Steamworks in the following locations. The Hive Axyl server verifies receipts with the credentials registered in Store Settings and retrieves Steam product information with the product IDs registered in Product Registration.

Steam products have two prerequisites.

Because Steam product prices are managed with price tiers, you must first create a price tier in the Active status in Payment > Price Tier before you register products. For how to create one, see Price tier.
Because you enter Steam product names for each language, if the language tabs do not appear, first set the supported languages in Supported languages.

When you register products, select Steam for Payment platform and Consumable for Product type.

If you use a different key for each App ID, register it individually as described in Configure credentials per App ID.
