Metric

Overview

Metric is a feature that lets you save and reuse the settings of frequently used metrics in the Create > Chart menu.

If you define the metrics that can be used in common across the company in Metric, you can display metrics from the same source with the same figures. When the metric criteria change, you only need to edit one metric, and the change is automatically reflected in all charts and dashboards that use it.

What can you do?

Business/marketing users

  • If you define common team KPIs such as DAU, MAU, and ARPU as metrics, all members can share data based on the same criteria.
  • If you classify metrics by purpose with metric categories, you can systematically manage the analysis assets of the whole team.

Data analysts

  • If you save complex derived metrics such as ARPPU and PU RATE(%) as a metric once, you can reuse them right away without the hassle of setting them up again for each chart.
  • When you change a metric definition, the change is automatically reflected in all charts that use the metric, so you can maintain consistency.

Quick start

If you are creating a metric for the first time, follow the steps below to create your first metric.

  1. Click the Data > Metric menu in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the Register button in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter the metric title and category.
  4. In the metric area, select the event, value, and operation to analyze.
  5. Click the Save button.

Note

For detailed features such as metric registration, display and hide settings, and metric categories, see Full features.

Key concepts

Concept Description
Metric A metric definition calculated based on events (for example, AU = COUNT DISTINCT userId of the app_login event)
Built-in Metric A metric that the Analytics system provides by default
Custom Metric A custom metric that Analytics users define themselves
Metric Category A group that classifies metrics by type (for example, users, revenue, sessions, and app usage analysis)

Built-in metrics

Metrics that the Analytics system provides by default. You can copy and modify them to use them as new metrics.

To use the metrics, you must send each event and attribute. For events, see Send event logs, and for attributes, see Send event attributes.

Category Metric Description Formula (event name · aggregation · attribute · filter)
User AU Number of users who logged in to the app, with duplicates removed app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId
AU(deviceId) Number of deviceIds that logged in to the app, with duplicates removed app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · deviceId
NU Number of users who logged in to the app for the first time, with duplicates removed app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId · newUser = 'Y'
NU(deviceId) Number of deviceIds that logged in to the app for the first time, with duplicates removed app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · deviceId · newUser = 'Y'
Login Hit Total number of app logins app_login · COUNT · userId
Concurrent Users Number of users, with duplicates removed, included in the events that the Hive Axyl SDK sends at 2-minute intervals while the app is running app_session_maintain · COUNT DISTINCT · userId
Terms Agreements Number of deviceIds, with duplicates removed, for cases where the app is launched for the first time after download terms_agree · COUNT DISTINCT · deviceId
Revenue In-app Revenue Sum of the payment amounts made in the in-app store product_purchase · SUM · price
Purchase Quantity Total quantity of users' in-app store purchases product_purchase · SUM · quantity
Revenue Count Number of receipts, with duplicates removed, issued when in-app store purchase events occur product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · transactionId
PU Number of users who paid in the in-app store, with duplicates removed product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · userId
ARPU In-app revenue per user ( product_purchase · SUM · price ) / ( app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId )
ARPU(deviceId) In-app revenue per deviceId ( product_purchase · SUM · price ) / ( app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · deviceId )
ARPPU Average in-app revenue per paying user ( product_purchase · SUM · price ) / ( product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · userId )
PU RATE(%) Ratio (%) of in-app store paying users to users who logged in to the app ( (product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · userId) * 100 ) / ( app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId )

Create a metric

Basic information

Item Required Description
Metric Title Required The name displayed on analysis screens (up to 30 characters)
Metric Description Optional A description of the calculation method and purpose of the metric (up to 300 characters)
Category Required Select an existing metric category created in the company, or create a new one with direct input
Result Display Options Optional Set the decimal places / percentage display / change indicator
Metric Required Build the formula by selecting an event + selecting a value + selecting an operation. You can combine multiple items with the add button to write a compound formula

Metric settings

A metric is defined as a combination of an event, an attribute value, and an attribute aggregation method.

Aggregation method Description Main use
COUNT Total number of event occurrences Event occurrence frequency
COUNT DISTINCT Number of unique users or values, excluding duplicates Number of accessing users, number of paying users
SUM Sum of the attribute values Total revenue, total play time
AVG Average of the attribute values Average payment amount, average play time
MIN Minimum of the attribute values Lowest payment amount
MAX Maximum of the attribute values Highest level reached
MAX BY Most recent (last) attribute value Last level

Metric definition examples

Metric title Formula (event · aggregation · attribute · filter)
AU app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId
In-app Revenue product_purchase · SUM · price
Revenue Count product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · transactionId
PU RATE(%) ( (product_purchase · COUNT DISTINCT · userId) * 100 ) / ( app_login · COUNT DISTINCT · userId )

You can also define a compound formula that combines the aggregation results of two events, such as PU RATE(%), as a single metric.

Tip

A metric defines only "what to count," and the chart decides "in what unit to view it." For example, if you want to check the DAU/WAU/MAU metrics, you only need to define a single AU. After you define one AU metric, changing the period unit in the chart to daily/weekly/monthly automatically makes it DAU, WAU, and MAU.

Manage metric categories

Create and manage categories for classifying metrics by purpose. If the category you want does not exist, click 'Direct Input' and type it with the keyboard. metric_03.png

Category examples

  • User metrics (DAU, MAU, WAU)
  • Revenue metrics (ARPU, ARPPU, in-app revenue)
  • Session metrics (session count, play time, average session count)
  • App usage metrics (content play count, amount of currency acquired, amount of currency consumed)

Control metric display

metric_05.png

  • If the metric type is not 'Platform', you can set whether each metric is displayed with the Usage Status toggle in the list.
  • If you set it to OFF, the metric is hidden in the measure value selection list of Create > Chart.

Copy and delete metrics

  • Copy: Quickly create a similar metric based on an existing metric
  • Delete: Delete a metric that is no longer used
Warning

If any charts or dashboards use a deleted metric, the data of that content may not be displayed.

Use metrics in charts

metric_06.png

  1. Go to the [Data] tab of the Create > Chart creation screen.
  2. Click the + button on the right of the measure value area.
  3. Search for and select the metric you created.

Notes & tips

  • Built-in metrics are provided by the system by default and cannot be edited or deleted.
  • Before you delete a metric, first check the charts and dashboards that use it.
  • If you change a metric formula, the data of all charts that use the metric changes immediately. Edit important metrics carefully.
  • For common metrics used by the whole team, write a detailed description to clearly share the definition and calculation method.
  • To avoid creating duplicate metrics with similar names, search for existing metrics before you create one.

  • Event — Define the events to use in metric formulas
  • Chart — Create charts that use metrics as measures
  • Dashboard — View metric-based charts together on a dashboard
